गौंथली झैं यो गाउँमा
कसको मायाले—
भन ! तिमी आयौ
कुन घरको दलानमा गुँड लगाउँने
कसको खेतको पानी र माटो चलाउने
गौंथली झैं यो गाउँमा

तिमी गएदेखि नै– हिमाल रोइरह्यो
जून डुलेन, धान झुलेन
करेशाको लालुपाते फेरि फुलेन
दीयो बलेन, मादल बजेन
मान्छेदेखि मान्छे पुग्ने पुलै रहेन
यस्तो थाहा पायौ कि
कसको मायाले—
भन ! तिमी आयौ
गौंथली झैं यो गाउँमा

तिमी गएदेखि नै – गाउँलाई दशा लाग्यो
सह रहेन, शान्ति भएन
दाजु भाइ एक–अर्काको मनै मिलेन
दया रहेन, धर्म रहेन
आफन्तमा लड्दा लड्दै कोही रहेन
यस्तो थाहा पायौ कि
कसको मायाले—
भन ! तिमी आयौ

Kun gharko dalanama gud lagaune
Kasko khetko paani ra mato chalaune

Juna dulena, dhana jhulena
Kareshako lalupate pheri phulena
Diyo balena, madal bajena
Manchhedekhi manchhe pugne pulai rahena
Yasto thaha payau ki

Timi gaedekhi nai – gaulai dasha lagyo
Saha rahena, shanti bhaena
Daju bhai ek–arkako manai milena
Daya rahena, dharma rahena
Aaphantama ladda laddai kohi rahena
Yasto thaha payau ki
Kasko mayale—

Tell me out of whose love

Like the way the swallows do

To build nest under its roof
Or a land that with water to till
For many crops to yield

The moon stopped wandering
Paddy never matured to sway
Lalupate in the back garden
Halted its blossom of red

Oil lamps were never set alight
Madal stopped drumming rhythm
The bridge has collapsed
That connected every human

From the time you left
As goodness waned  
Peace never prevailed
Brothers fought to rebel
Compassion itself failed
True Dharma went astray
